Use of TTE® is an active contribution to environmental conservation:

- Hydroactive: Areas covered with the TTE® system remain permeable to water at all times since distribution of pressure over a large area and long-term movability of the TTE® grid prevent soil compaction and ensure that the natural hydroactivity of the soil is maintained.
- Preservation of soil fauna: The top thirty centimetres of one square metre of soil provide a natural habitat for more than 200 million plants
and other organisms. Use of the TTE® system preserves this valuable biomass. - Filter function: The uppermost layer of the soil fulfils a valuable physical and biochemical function, especially in counteracting environmentally toxic substances like oil spills. Since the TTE® systems can be set up without having to remove the humus layer, the filter function of this layer is maintained.

The surface soil, the top layer of the earth’s crust, performs absolutely essential functions both for human beings and for the environment. As living space, a water regulator, a gene pool, generator of foodstuffs, supplier of raw materials and biomass, it has a significant ecological and economic role. And yet this essential basis of human life is being destroyed, day in and day out.
Just in Germany alone, according to figures supplied by the Bundesamt für Naturschutz [Federal Office for Natural Conservation] around 90 hectares of land are lost every day through surface sealed for the construction of roads and settlements. That is equivalent to 150 football pitches! – a quite drastic loss of organic substance.
Sealed surface areas are no longer able to carry out their tasks, which for us are essential to life – like water storage, replenishment of ground water and evaporation. Blockage of natural water seepage outlets, for example, is one of the main causes of flooding.
When the TTE® system is used, the ground is neither sealed nor compacted. The valuable biological functions of the humus layer – especially
in what relates to the water balance - are protected and maintained.
At European level, soil conservation is already an important environmental issue. Common guidelines and proposals for legislation are currently being worked out.
